Our tenth meeting of the Rotary 2016-17 was Wednesday, September 07, 2016, in the Fisher Room of the Pittsford Community Library.  Traditionally, we bring all our eligible “bags and mags” during the first meeting of the month.  Bags are reused at the Pittsford Food Cupboard, and mags are used as reading material at Saint's Place.

Today's guest speaker, Richard Turner, works for Monroe County Planning and Economic Development Department as the Workforce Development Manager. Planning and Development provides and coordinates a broad range of programs focusing on job retention and creation, employment and training services, land use planning and resource conservation as well as housing and neighborhood preservation. The department integrates planning services with economic and community development activities through partnerships with local governments and the private sector. The Planning and Development Department consists of several divisions which include Community Development, Economic Development, Planning Division, and Workforce Development.

Suzie Rose, our Assistant District Governor, joined us as well. Suzie encouraged us to attend the Sept. 17, Sept. 24, or Oct. 1 District Membership Seminars in Bath, Newark or Rush. District Governor Tom Rogers will be attending our meeting next Wednesday, September 14.  This is a meeting that you will not want to miss.

We were also joined by Christina Buckewicz, prospective member, and Town Judge Robert Shaddock. Judge Shaddock is running for re-election.  Remember to vote for him at next week's Independence Party primary, Tuesday, Sept. 13. Polls will be open only from Noon to 9pm.

Luke Stuart was not able to attend our meeting this morning, but passed on the sign-up sheets for the September 28th Teddy Bear Picnic.  He contacted the Sheriff’s office last month.  Pres. Matt reached out to his counterpart at the Honeoye Falls-Mendon Rotary Club who is co-hosting the event with us.

Please e-mail Pres. Matt directly if you would like to attend the November 9 dinner with Rotary International President John Germ.  We are looking to secure at least one table for our Club at the Convention Center that Wednesday evening.

There was also a sign-up sheet for Saints Place for Saturday, September 24, to help the staff organize the warehouse after their successful “Super Sale.”

Sophie McCormick, our outbound student, sent us an e-mail on her experiences in Australia to date.  Sophie will be a regular correspondent. Click here to view the letter.

Harold McAulliffe won the $375 in our fellowship pot last week, so we started all over again this week.
