Saint's Place in the Village, assists refugees from war-torn countries seeking asylum in the United States. They are legal immigrants arriving in Rochester, through the Refugee and Immigration Department of the Catholic Family Center. Approximately 700 refugees arrive in Rochester each year from all around the globe. These weary people arrive with nothing more than the clothes on their backs, having escaped from war-torn countries. Some have lived in refugee camps for up to seven years waiting for a country to sponsor them. Donated furniture, household goods, appliances, and clothing are stored until needed, and then used to set up an apartment for each newly arrived family.

Matt O'Connor organized a bi-weekly support service at Saint's Place. He announced that an orientation meeting would be held at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 4th.  But when fellow Rotarians Dylan Brown, Ashok Patel, Kevin O'Grady, Bob Vukosic, Gaven Hurley and Pete Crooker showed up at St. John of Rochester, an  extension of Saint's Place, they were asked to empty an entire truck and van of furniture.  They also helped set up a few sample living rooms in preparation for a big sale in November.  That took about 2 1/2 hours. Yes, that was their orientation. (LOL)
