ImageImageSaint's Place is a volunteer organization, based on Christian values, that provides household goods, clothing, and education to legal refugees of all races and creeds who settle in the Rochester, NY area to escape violence, discrimination and poverty.
Isabel discussed possible projects that The Rotary Club might embrace:
1.        Meet with all members to determine who are manufacturers or who are linked through business/friendship to manufacturers.   Their list of materials is extensive but perhaps there are a few members who can contact a manufacturer for the. They need sheets (twin/double), blankets, lamps, tables, chairs, boots, sweaters, men’s underwear, socks, toys, backpacks, school supplies.
2.       Conduct a “new” coat drive throughout the Fall for refugee men/women/children.
3.       Work one Saturday a month at Saint’s Place driving their van and picking up donations and making deliveries to the homes of refugees.
4.      Tutor the refugees at their two locations, St. Boniface and the Greek Orthodox Church.  The term is from September-May, one night a week from 4:45 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.   There is orientation.
5.       Sponsor a drive to collect Laundry detergent, soap, toothpaste, toilet paper, deodorant, etc. These items are essential to the refugee families and often their limited budget does not include said products.
Malcolm Bugler presented a check for $300 to Isabel on behalf Jim and Joan Keebler who asked that their Community Service award be donated to Saint's Place.
