Our community is blessed with a historic, scenic environment that many enjoy — the New York State Canal System. What may be taken for granted are the efforts committed to keeping our area’s section of the Erie Canal Trail attractive and inviting. Pittsford Rotary takes great pride in helping maintain the Erie Canal System, as it is a unique recreational and tourism destination in the Pittsford area.

Adopting a highway means a commitment to taking care of a segment of highway for a two-year period.  Work includes picking up trash, raking, and even planting flowers.Matthew Wahl, Chairperson of the East St. Clean Sweep since 2002 said, "The Adopt-A-Highway Program is very rewarding. It gives our members great satisfaction to transform East Street into a clean roadside. Pittsford Rotary is proud to keep a part of our town and Monroe County a little cleaner.”  Dylan Brown has taken over as Chairperson starting next year when we have renewed our 2-year commitment with the Department Of Transportation.

On Saturday, October 18th, Pittsford's Interact Club Members endured the light sprinkle while working to clean up a section of the Canal Trail from Bushnell's Basin to Schoen Place in the Village of Pittsford. President Grace Soong stopped by to witness the Interactors weed a patch of land along the canal where Rotarians planted daffodils a few years ago. They were supervised and assisted by Interact Chair, Pat Mallery, and Rotarians Jim Murphy and Pete Crooker.
